Despite being one of the world's most ethnically homogeneous nations, Japan is home to several ethnic minority groups, the largest of which are ethnic Koreans and Chinese, Ryukyuan, Burakumin and Ainu. Numerous distinct expatriate communities are also resident in major centres of population.
