Church, Orphir (©Orkney Museums and Heritage)Located eight miles west south west of Kirkwall at Orphir, the Earl's Bu comprises the foundations of ancient buildings which have been identified as the remains of the early 12th-century seat of Haakon Paulsson Earl of Orkney.
The adjacent church also dates from the 12th century, and consists of the chancel and part of the nave of the only medieval round church in Scotland.
Nearby is the Orkneyinga Saga Centre.
