Norwegian Film Development Norwegian Film Development is a public body directly under the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs which acts as a centre for competence, development and inspiration serving the professional audio-visual community in Norway. Its remit includes workshops, courses, seminars and conferences aimed at furthering technical and creative competence, as well as project-based training for the development and enhancement of individual skills. Norwegian Film Development administrates a support system for screenplay development of full-length fiction, animation and documentary films, offering several grants for professional training abroad.
Norwegian Film Development is responsible for the professional and vocational training of industry professionals and freelance workers on a national level. Under this public remit it continually develops new project-based workshop formats combining development and individual skills improvement.
In addition to national and regional engagements, Norwegian Film Development participates in the development of several Media+ funded programmes.
A writer-based screenplay development fund for full-length fiction, animation, TV-drama and documentaries serves 30-50 projects at any one time with script editors as well as bursaries for the writers (€ 600,000).
Norwegian Film Development also runs a series of development workshops, including pitching workshops, pilot production and script development, and arranges seminars and activities for writers such as courses in dramaturgy, scriptwriting and cold-readings with actors.
Norwegian Film Development supports professional training abroad, as well as participation at skills-enhancing and shorter events such as film festivals. Training and development grants are provided in a range of areas, focusing mainly on scriptwriting, production, directing and documentary development – both Media+ and other programmes.
