The Norwegian Touring Theatre (Riksteatret) tours throughout Norway (with the exception of the four largest cities) and has done since its establishment in 1948 by the Norwegian Parliament. The repertoire is wide including classical and contemporary drama, musicals, comedies, modern dance, puppet theatre, and theatre for children and young people. During any given year, the theatre presents up to 500 performances in 65 different locations throughout Norway. It tours on average 10 to 15 different productions each year - either its own productions, co-productions with other theatres, or productions purchased from other theatres and independent professional companies. The Norwegian Touring Theatre's permanent staff comprises 80 employees. In addition to the permanent staff, 150-250 artists and technicians are engaged each year. Norwegian Touring Theatre has 65 local marketing and contact persons in the municipal cultural offices.
