Verdensteatret is an independent professional art group. Founded in 1986, the group is based in Oslo, Norway.
The group has over the years a long history in exploring the many issues and methods related to performance - theatre, live art, sound-art and visual art. The different artistic professions are blending into each other. The last 5-6 years the projects has also involved a lot of development and experimenting into new technology connected to image and sound.
Characteristic for the group's working style is that it comprises artists from different artistic disciplines in a collaborative process. Many of the latest projects has taken its starting point from journeys made by ca.6/7 of the most central artists in the group. Places such as Cuba, Ukraine, Istanbul, Greenland and others.
The artistic expression is rather abstract and experimental and does not necessarily have so much to do with the places they have been travelling in. Today their works are seen as a kind of orchestral works or as space-related musical compositions. The interdisciplinary characteristics of their work make it natural to show them both in art-museums/galleries, contemporary music-festivals or theatre/stage rooms. The works are presented in many different countries, both in Europe and other continents.
Verdensteatret are interested in international co-operation and exchange of artistic work, both to broaden their own experience and to co-operate with foreign artists for a mutual benefit back and forth. In their experimental intermedial art-practice, the group can co-operate with many different kind of artists.
