Haugesund Teater is a regional theatre company owned by Haugesund Municipality and jointly funded by the state (30 per cent), the county (10 per cent) and the municipality (20 per cent). The theatre was founded in 1986 as a project theatre and is resident at the Festiviteten - Haugesund Theatre and Concert Hall, Haugesund’s main performing arts venue. The group has few employees and engages artists and technicians seperately for each project. The theatre’s main target group is children and youth, yet its repertory is very varied and also includes several performances for an adult audience. The theatre tours kindergardens and schools and presents an annual co-production with one or more amateur groups. Its repertoire consists mainly of Norwegian and British drama with an emphasis on musical theatre.
