Grenland Fringe Theatre was established in Grenland, south-west of Oslo in 1976. The theatre is situated in the middle of Porsgrunn city and houses a theatre and rehearsal space, cafe, workshop and offices. The Theatre produces various different types of performances, including intimate experimental productions for an adult audience, non-pedagogic performances for children and adults, and spectacular outdoor performances.
The aim of Grenland Fringe Theatre is not only to make innovative, entertaining and thought-provoking performances, but also to contribute to the development of a new theatre culture in rural Norway. The company wishes to contribute to a direct and challenging theatre culture that does not pay homage to theatre conventions and debate in central Norway.
The company tours Norway and internationally and arranges courses, conferences and festivals. It also hosts the Porsgrunn International Theatre Festival.
