Stella Polaris is an independent, non-profit theatre company from Stokke, in the south of Norway. The name refers to the North Star; and the myths of the north. It has been carefully chosen for the reason of adventure, life force, spirits and healing through movement and love. The group was founded in 1985 by Merete Klingen and Per Spildra Borg. Their aim was to make an expressive and visually strong world theatre.
Its productions spans from small storytelling to big outdoor events that explode in colours, music and energy. It is inspired by medieval theatre, combined with impulses of other cultures, minorities, world expressions and times.
Stella Polaris' vision is: (i) to burst open the borders between fantasy and reality, and give the audience an experience without the boundaries of time and space; (ii) to give extensive pedagogical work based on our artistic, social and spiritual belief; and (iii) to create a more vivid, spiritual and open world, based on the universal principle of love.
The company's performances have been presented from the far north of Norway, to Bethlehem and Ghaza in the Middle East, and are more frequently invited to major cultural and theatre festivals around Europe.
