Established in Oslo in 1984 and moved to Bergen in 1989, Carte Blanche is the national company of contemporary dance, jointly administered by Bergen City Council and Hordaland County Council with support from central government.
Carte Blanche produces a minimum of three new choreographic works a year and performs an average of four to six productions each year. Guest choreographers, designers and musicians are invited from abroad as well as from the Norwegian scene. The company regularly tours nationally and in recent years has also frequently toured Europe. The artistic ensemble comprises a wealth of international talent, having an extensive knowledge of classical and modern dance training, as well as improvisation, creative and choreographic skills. Carte Blanche aims to present the best of Norwegian choreography to a wide range of audiences in Norway and abroad.
Carte Blanche is based at Studio Bergen, a former film studio where the ensemble rehearses its productions. The venue is also available for rental for theatre and dance productions.
