One of the leading names of Norwegian independent theatre, De Utvalgte ('the Chosen Ones') theatre group was established in 1993 and works on the threshold between concert, theatre, film and performance, experimenting with a mixture of video and music to interplay with the performers.
One of its best-known creations is Jimmy Young, named after a character created in 1994 by actor Torbjørn Davidsen and video-artist Joachim Hamou, which plays with identities and roles by creating a atmosphere of unpredictability where you end up not quite knowing whether what you are witnessing is fiction or in fact authentic. Davidsen travelled as Jimmy for seven years, closely watched by Hamou’s camera, and with a false Press-ID gained access to the Cannes Film Festival, the inner circle of the Sufi leadership in Egypt, and beggars and millionaires in New York. Many people threw themselves into his story along the way, attracted by the camera and microphone and the promise of getting some exposure. Davidsen has staged some spectacular situations in his own life under the cover of being Jimmy Young, without any thought of consequence, always knowing he could move on to the next place. But his luck eventually runs out and a life in front of the camera catches up with him.
De Utvalgte comprises Kari Holtan, Torbjørn Davidsen, John Birger Wormdal and Boya Bøckman
