Wattanatham (Culture) Magazine was launched in late 2004 'as part of the plan to propagate the policies and regulations of the Party and also to promote culture, national heritage and the lifestyles of all ethnic groups in Laos, including their agricultural production, meals, dress, accommodation, health care, culture, cultural products and beliefs.' Seen as 'a tool for the Lao people to present their culture to the rest of the world', the magazine aims to create a sense of patriotism amongst Lao people and to help introduce Lao culture to foreigners. It contains articles on current cultural development projects, heritage, traditional festivals and arts and crafts.
