The Lao Front for National Construction (Neo Lao Sang Xat) was established in 1979 on the basis of the former Lao Patriotic Front (Neo Lao Hak Xat) and Lao Freedom Front (Neo Lao Issara). An important part of the political system of the Lao PDR under the leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP), the LFNC brings together political organisations, social-political organisations and outstanding individuals representing the various social classes, strata, ethnic groups, religions and overseas Lao with the aim of promoting a sense of solidarity and equality among the population, irrespective of social status, ethnicity or spiritual belief. The LFNC is tasked with gathering and building the block of great national unity, strengthening the political and spiritual unanimity of the people, propagandising and encouraging the people to realise the principles and policies of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and to strictly implement the Constitution and laws, and taking part in the development of relationships and co-operation between Laos and other countries. The LFNC liaises with the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP), with government ministries and with relevant committees in the implementation of its work.
